Bullies of the blossom.
Jun 19th, 2009 by Duncan
Our first hard frost for winter, followed by a clear sunny day, ironbarks heavy in blossom, Rainbow Lorikeets and Red Wattlebirds competing for the nectar and pollen. Normally the lorikeets will see off other birds twice their size, but they seem to have met their match in the wattlebirds, or perhaps there is just so much blossom that they don’t need to. Woe betide any smaller nectar feeders that dare to try their luck though, they’d be much wiser to concentrate on the correa and hakea flowers, there’s enough for all.
